“I show the Universe gratitude every day. Having gratitude attracts abundance into life.”

I'm sure you’ve heard this before. Sometimes it feels like it's easier said than done. I know it may be difficult to feel grateful when your life seems awful with one obstacle after another. Maybe you have tons of debt, bad credit, and a shitty job (or no job at all.)

“How can I feel grateful for any of that stuff?” you may ask.

There are times I struggle with feeling happy and feeling trapped. This happens often enough I have been learning to make this whole gratitude thing a habit--because it works! Every time I feel stressed and overwhelmed by challenges in life, nothing makes me feel better than focusing on the simple things. I think about all of these small things I am grateful for, and how I would feel if I didn’t have them.

To be honest, I don't just feel awful. Sometimes, I would be absolutely miserable and utterly devastated! This eventually snaps me back to reality, and I have to tell myself:

“Look, I know this situation SUCKS, but I am truly grateful for (list the things you value the most)" 

For me, it usually starts with my son, the roof over my head, and hot water. There are people who don’t have any of these things. In fact, sometimes I let my imagination run wild, and I think of some of the most tragic things people must go through. Many people HAVE gone through things I can't even begin to imagine. I immediately realize how good I have it. I feel lucky, and this immediately makes me feel grateful to be where I am today. I also feel more calm. I know this too shall pass.
